DIY Speaker Kit | Criton 1TD-X Bookshelf Speaker (Pair)
CSS Criton 1TD-X Bookshelf Speaker Kit
Big speaker performance from a compact DIY kit.
The Criton 1TD-X is our best-selling bookshelf speaker kit for a reason: it delivers deep, clean bass, smooth non-fatiguing treble, excellent imaging, and a level of refinement that surprises people from a speaker this size.
Built around our LDW7 woofer and LD25X tweeter with XBL2 motor technology, the 1TD-X gives you a complete, fully engineered path to high-end sound without having to design the cabinet, crossover, or driver integration yourself.
A proven, high-performance bookshelf speaker kit for builders who want a serious result without starting from scratch.
Deep, Clean Bass
The LDW7 woofer gives the 1TD-X bass extension and composure that many bookshelf speakers simply cannot match.
Smooth Detail
The LD25X tweeter delivers clarity and air without the harshness or fatigue that can make some detailed speakers hard to enjoy long term.
Proven Design
With rave reviews from customers and critics, the 1TD-X is the safe choice when you want a compact kit that does almost everything well.
Fully Engineered System
Not just parts. A complete speaker design.
The 1TD-X was designed as a full loudspeaker system, with the drivers, crossover, cabinet tuning, and damping all developed to work together. That matters because the final result is not determined by any one part—it is determined by how well everything integrates.
We handle the hard parts: driver selection, acoustic measurements, modeling, crossover design, and cabinet plans. You get the rewarding part: building a speaker that performs like a serious finished product.
What It Sounds Like
Full, natural, and surprisingly effortless.
The 1TD-X is designed for the customer who wants a bookshelf speaker that does not sound small. It has the bass weight to stand on its own in many rooms, the midrange clarity to make vocals feel natural, and the smooth detail needed for long listening sessions.
Deep bass for its size
Designed to reach low enough that many listeners do not immediately feel the need for a subwoofer.
Clean, stable imaging
The crossover and driver integration help create a cohesive soundstage rather than two drivers playing separately.
Low fatigue
Detailed enough to be revealing, but voiced to stay smooth and enjoyable over long listening sessions.
Choose Your Build Level
Build it your way.
Whether you want the lowest-cost kit, a simpler cabinet build, or a higher-end crossover package, the 1TD-X gives you options without changing the core performance of the design.
Base Kit
Best for experienced builders who want to cut their own cabinets using the supplied plans. This is the lowest-cost option, but requires more tools and woodworking skill.
Flat Pack Cabinets
Precision-cut cabinet panels simplify the build and help ensure accurate assembly. Choose MDF or Baltic Birch flat packs when available.
Crossover Options
Start with the excellent Standard crossover or step up to the Superior crossover with upgraded parts for customers who want the premium build from the beginning.
SmartNode Crossover Boards
A cleaner, easier crossover build.
Crossovers are one of the most intimidating parts of many DIY speaker builds. Our SmartNode boards make the process cleaner, more organized, and more repeatable by giving each component a clear place in the circuit.
That means fewer layout questions, fewer wiring mistakes, and a more confident build—especially for customers who want high-end sound but do not want to design a crossover from scratch.
What’s Included
Everything you need. Nothing you don’t.
The full kit includes everything needed to assemble your speakers except glue, solder, and finish materials. No sourcing drivers, no guessing on crossover values, and no wondering which parts work together.

Where It Fits
The all-arounder in the CSS lineup.
The 1TD-X is the kit we recommend when someone wants a compact speaker that can do almost everything well. It reaches deep, images well, sounds smooth, and does not require a subwoofer to feel satisfying in many rooms.
If your main priority is the highest level of top-end refinement and detail retrieval, the Veritas One may be the better fit. If you want the most proven bookshelf kit with the strongest all-around balance of bass, clarity, value, and ease of ownership, the 1TD-X is still the benchmark.
Who This Kit Is For

The First Serious DIY Build

The No-Sub Bookshelf Setup
For listeners who want real bass weight from a compact speaker and do not want to rely on a subwoofer for every system.
The Long-Term Value Buyer
For customers who want high-end performance without paying the retail markup of a comparable finished speaker.
